...Pearl Jam took to the stage for the very first time.
It is incredible to think it has been that long. It wasn't until 1992 that my love affair with the band began. A classmate letting me listen to "Ten" during class. Watching the MTV Unplugged special...by the time it was finished, the die was cast, and it was all over.
Eighteen years later, their music still speaks to me, moves me. Inspires me. Their energy in concert is electrifying and contagious. After 35+ shows, I always walk away from each show with a new memory, perhaps a song speaking to me in a different way, depending on where I am in my life the moment I hear it.
As an artist, I find inspiration in many things - art, music, sculpture, architecture, nature, the love of family and friends that surrounds me. All these things feed my creativity. This band's music has been a solid source of inspiration, and has helped bring some light when things have been dark.
I know it is hard to explain to people why I make a point of seeing them as often as I do, or why they mean so much. It's beyond having a favorite album or particular performance. I've gotten to meet some amazing people thanks to this band, traveled to interesting places, had incredible experiences. Hell, I would have never gotten into the shirt business if it wasn't for the 10c contest!
The winning shirt design was inspired by "Release" and that one line...."I'll ride the wave, where it takes me". It means a lot to me, to keep strong, get through the bad times and relish the good.
I look forward to more years of beautiful music, artistic conviction and sweet inspiration...and to Bridge School this weekend to celebrate it all :) I look forward to seeing familiar and new faces, and hopefully some folks sporting my shirts!
Have a beautiful weekend everyone, and feel inspired by whatever moves you deeply.
